Shivananda (Shivoo) Koteshwar, sr. manager at Synopsys, is managing a non-profit effort called Chowki to bridge the gap between the industry, academia and student community.
Chowki is a brainchild of Sparsha Learning Technologies, a startup with products/services for the learning and education segments.
Shivoo says Chowki focuses both on engineering and management disciplines and has conducted several seminars in Bangalore since launch in Feb.
There's more information for companies, academics and students at www.chowki.info.

It's heartening to see that more folks are making an effort to bridge the gap between the real world of companies with what folks are learning in academia. Even as VLSI design and the EDA community has done much to bridge this gap, end applications & domain knowledge continue to trail in our schools. All of us should participate and contribute to this effort.

One thing that i want to emphasis through these initiatives is that these tools should make the students think & act in a more streamlined manner & mould them in such a way that they have innovative ideas. So when they come to industry there is always a chance to realize their innovation. This is absolutely required for India to sustain & excel in the technology field in the long run.
