The increasing demand for power and longer battery life has given rise to new power management techniques and battery technologies. For instance, Moser Baer Photo Voltaic Ltd, have acquired stake in at least three companies U.S.-based technology companies. Reva, the electric car company, is developing a semiconductor side, there are solutions that can help better utilize solar energy in portables.
Have you yet been assigned to a project that involves the emerging, greener technologies? We are looking forward to hearing your views on the new technologies and your experience designing for them.

The corporate world is beginning to respond to the need to go "green." Or perhaps it makes such good business sense to announce the following initiatives in the run-up to the UN Climate Change Conference in Bali. Whatever the primary motive, the plans could benefit the environment and bring new engineering projects. We should note here that Nokia Siemens and other network equipment suppliers targeting rural deployments are installing solar panels at base stations.

The head of Israel's Bar-Ilan University's Nanotechnology Institute has created a solar cell 100 times bigger than what it typically is. He says efficiency is similar to that of conventional, silicon-based cells but it is much cheaper to produce (see story at www.eetindia.co.in/ART_8800496200_1800008_NT_0e198c2b.HTM).
Have you heard of any R&D results in India?
