India's underfunded and poorly trained police force was overwhelmed not only with the terrorists’ weapons and willingness to die, but also with their sophisticated use of technology. The recent attacks just show how cheap technology accessible to civilians can easily be used for crime.

“Unfortunately, criminals will use any type of communications tool to talk to each other or share information,” said Eunice Lim, a spokesperson for Skype, a major VoIP provider.
