CFL's with improved PF

I find that legacy versions of CFL's have lower PF indication (on packing) as 0.5, whereas more contemporary CFL's have been mandated to have better PF,one vendor indicates this as 0.85. What is the design change that provides for this enhanced PF ?
What is the the switching frequency of CFL inverters and how is this fixed ?
Can anyone provide a circuit schema for a CFL switcher.

Enhanced PF can be achieved through many ways. Larger low frequency input inductor may give you the PF of 0.85-0.9. Active Power factor correction through average current mode controlled boost may give you almost unity (0.997) PF.

Most of the CFL circuits are self oscillating inverters. Internet search popped this CFL schematic. Link is attached. Looking at the current waveforms, I think the PF may be close to 0.9

 I hope this helps.
