Ultra-capacitors have been grabbing the headlines recently. Offering higher energy density (to weight) than their conventional brethren, the components are seen by some as replacements for some of the age-old battery technologies.
The capacitors are currently finding themselves in automotive applications (Ultracapacitors fill automotive power gaps). China is reportedly running an experimental bus service where public buses get a quick charge from "electric umbrellas" at bus stops.
What applications in India can use ultra-capacitors to replace chemical batteries?

ultra caps can go in elec toothbrushes and shavers. They undergo instant charge from ac power and run for a few minutes.
also fire alarms don't need batteries.  auto chaarge when power is avail.
in automotive they can be placed with inductors (actually motors) so that power load can be synchronized and loss reduced
