At the ISSCC, John Cohn, an IBM fellow, said kids are not interested in studying engineering and people who love it need to do something about that. But how can children dream of becoming the future engineers if engineers today don't even have stable jobs? Would you encourage your kids to take up engineering?

I think India's case is very different from that of the US. Here, engineering remains a lucrative course to take...more so now that local design houses continue to grow and expand in expertise. Yes, definitely,  I'd encourage any Indian kid to take up electronics engineering.Laughing

As John Cohn rightly said, the passion for engineering is eroding. We cannot relate it to India, where the pure passion for engineeing is almost nill !. In India its a craze for engineering by the parents.. 99.9% college grads may know equaions, but not the knowledge to relate it to a practical scenario.. Its all just about a degree and has nothing to do about engineering.. If american and european engineers reduce their salary, then only the best engineering brains in India will survive. John was not talking only on offshoring, but on the position in society and the quality of work. What do you think of those in an Indian sitiation?
