Huge layoffs in the US have prompted calls against outsourcing. It’s a sad situation where their loss is our gain—but wouldn’t it be sadder the other way around? Even India has seen job cuts due to the global crisis. Could such moves in the US put more India tech jobs under the axe?

more than just the cost advantage, India gets these outsourced jobs because of the skills available, so I think this will keep us afloat despite the crisis and all.

Even if there's a hiring freeze in the private sector, the government is still hiring. They are hiring more and paying more (see What meltdown? Govt is hiring and paying more)!
That could be really good news for the government. Any laid off engineers from the private sector might bring professionalism to babuland.
And this is good news for fresh grads that didn't see companies lining up for recruitment at their college.
