Dr. Deepak Divan is president of the IEEE Power Electronics Society, a Fellow of the IEEE, and chair of the IEEE Energy 2030 Conference - Global Sustainable Energy Infrastructure. At Georgia Tech, he is a professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and founding director of the Intelligent Power Infrastructure Consortium. He is also chairman and chief innovation officer for Innovolt, a company he started in 2006.
Divan was the recipient of the 2006 IEEE William E. Newell Field Award for contributions in power electronics. He has been a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Industry Applications Society for 2004 and 2005. He has over 200 published papers and 30 issued and pending patents. His research interests are in the application of power electronics for power delivery, power quality, power reliability and industrial applications.
From 1995-2004, he was founder, chairman and CEO/CTO of Soft Switching Technologies, a company in the industrial power quality market. He was professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison from 1985-95, and was associate director of the Wisconsin Electric Machines and Power Electronics Consortium.
Divan received his B.S. in Technology and Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1975, followed by an M.S. and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary, Canada, in 1977 and 1983 respectively.
